The Ministry of Energy has launched the second auction within the state aid scheme in the form of Contracts for Difference (CfD) to support the production of electricity from wind and photovoltaic projects.
The auction will make available a total capacity of 3,472 MW to investors, of which 2,000 MW for onshore wind energy projects and 1,472 MW for photovoltaic parks.
The maximum bidding prices are set at €80 per MWh for wind energy and €73 per MWh for solar energy.
In the first round, which closed last year, financing contracts were signed for approximately 1,000 MW in wind farms and 500 MW in solar projects.
“We are talking about thousands of megawatts that will mean lower bills for Romanians, better-paid jobs across the country, and a safer, more competitive, and cleaner economy. We are eliminating the 25% cap per project, offering freedom to apply without capacity limits, and the rules are clarified to reduce risks for investors and increase competition. This call has the potential to fundamentally change the structure of the national energy mix,” said Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja.
“We no longer accept being dependent on expensive imports or external crises. Romania has the potential to become a regional leader in renewable energy, and this call is proof that we want to, can, and are taking action,” added Burduja.
The new elements of the second auction include the elimination of the 25% cap for the maximum capacity awarded per applicant, to improve cost efficiency, allow bidders to expand their projects, and encourage more competitive exercise prices.
Moreover, there are no restrictions on the application capacity in MW; any applicant can submit multiple bids and obtain Contracts for Difference for the offered capacity or capacities.
