PPC Renewables Romania has installed the first turbines at what will be the largest wind farm in the Moldova region, marking a new phase in the project's construction.
The Deleni wind farm will feature 23 GE Vernova turbines, each with a capacity of 6.1 MW, an output nearly three times higher than turbines installed during the country's previous major wind energy development phase up to 2012.
With a total installed capacity of 140 MW, the wind farm is set to generate approximately 370 GWh of electricity annually. This is enough to power the equivalent of 100,000 households and is projected to avoid around 215,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.
Adrian Dugulan, GM of PPC Renewables Romania, said: "With the installation of the first wind turbines, we are moving into a new stage in the construction of the Deleni park. The wind potential in the region is considerable, and our geographic expansion beyond Dobrogea, traditionally known for wind energy, contributes to both diversifying Romania's energy mix and addressing the production capacity deficit in the North of the country, as well as benefiting the local community."
Each turbine stands at 121 metres high with a rotor diameter of 158 metres. The project also includes three transformer stations, with the Banca station acting as the interconnection point with the National Energy System. The design also allows for the future addition of energy storage capacities.
The turbine components were transported via 12 oversized shipments each, travelling from Constanța to Vaslui, with each journey taking about three nights.
Upon completion, the project will bring PPC Renewables Romania's total installed renewables capacity to about 1.5 GW.
The PPC Group, which operates across Greece, Romania, Italy, and Bulgaria, aims to reach a total renewable energy capacity of 11.8 GW by 2027, with 3.7 GW of projects currently under construction or ready to build.
