State-owned energy companies Electrica and Romgaz have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop green energy projects with an installed capacity of up to 400 MW.
The partnership will be structured through a dedicated investment vehicle, with Electrica serving as the main developer and Romgaz as a minority strategic partner.
Electrica currently has a portfolio of approximately 300 MWp in photovoltaic projects, with 46.5 MWp already operational in 2025. The company's strategic goals for 2030 include a total production capacity of 1 GW and 900 MWh of storage.
Alexandru-Aurelian Chiriță, CEO, Electrica, said: "After the success of the €500 million green bond issue in July 2025 and the access to €200 million in EIB financing, this collaboration with Romgaz demonstrates that cooperation models between Romanian energy companies can significantly accelerate the transition."
Răzvan Popescu, CEO of Romgaz: "Today, Romgaz is taking a significant step towards its diversification and energy transition strategy. The memorandum signed with Electrica confirms our commitment to investing in clean energy and strengthening our role as a pillar of Romania's energy security."
The final transaction is contingent upon a due diligence process and corporate approvals from both companies.
