Romania's crude oil output drops 7.7% in eight months, imports soar

Romania's crude oil production decreased by 7.7% in the first eight months of 2025, while imports rose by 19.2%.

Romania produced 1.669 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) of crude oil during the first eight months of this year, which is 139,300 toe less (-7.7%) than the amount recorded during the same period in 2024, according to data by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In the period analysed, crude oil imports totalled 5.96 million toe, representing an increase of 960,500 toe compared to the first eight months of the previous year (+19.2%)3.

According to the latest Energy Balance Forecast published by the National Commission for Strategy and Prognosis (CNSP), domestic crude oil production is projected to decline at an average annual rate of 2.5% until 2027.
