Cargo traffic through the Port of Constanța dropped by over 27% in Q1 2025, while traffic via the Danube-Black Sea Canal was approximately 40% lower compared to the same period last year.
Traffic through the Port of Constanța totaled 15.4 million tonnes in Q1 2025, a decrease of 27.0% from the figure recorded in the first quarter of 2024.
Traffic through the Danube-Black Sea Canal, at a volume of 3.2 million tonnes of goods in Q1 2025, fell by 39.9% compared to the volume recorded in Q1 2024.
"The total number of vessels transiting [the canal] decreased by 33.8% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to that recorded in the first quarter of 2024, and the number of foreign vessels that crossed the canal decreased by 42.7%," according to the County Statistics Office (DJS) in Constanța.
Meanwhile, the industrial turnover in Constanța rose by 57.2% by April 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
