Rheinmetall, the German systems supplier to the defence industry, is significantly expanding its local production capabilities in Romania, based on Lynx infantry fighting vehicles, ammunition, and powder.
The new network integrates Rheinmetall's existing operations, including Rheinmetall Automecanica, with new partnerships forged with key Romanian companies such as Uzina Automecanica Moreni, Interactive Software, and MarcTel-SIT.
A cornerstone of this initiative is the local production of the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle at Rheinmetall Automecanica, aiming for a robust supply chain and reduced dependency on external suppliers. Furthermore, Rheinmetall Munitions Romania will undertake the manufacturing of medium-calibre ammunition for infantry fighting vehicles and air defence, while Victoria Explosive Powder Factory will produce propellants.
As part of the investment plan, the company is establishing a centre equipped with cutting-edge simulators and comprehensive training programmes.
Rheinmetall's investment is set to create hundreds of jobs across manufacturing, engineering, and technical services.
