Cătălin Predoiu has been named Interim PM following the resignation of Marcel Ciolacu. The appointment was approved by Interim President Ilie Bolojan.
Predoiu will be tasked with overseeing the government affairs until the formation of a new government, most probably after the second presidential election round scheduled for May 18.
Predoiu graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Bucharest in 1991, and later earned a PhD in Law Summa cum Laude from the same university in 2003.
Predoiu's career includes significant roles in both law and government. In his legal career, he was a founding partner and coordinator at several law firms, including Stoian Predoiu and Zamfirescu Racoţi Predoiu.
His government service is marked by several high-profile positions: he has served multiple times as Minister of Justice, and also as Interim PM. More recently, he assumed the roles of Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs in June 2023.
Throughout his career, Predoiu has also been involved in academia as a university lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest.
Predoiu is also Interim President of the National Liberal Party (PNL).
