Trade between Romania and Germany saw a 1.9% decrease in H1 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania), citing data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
AHK Romania stated that the total value of trade (imports and exports) between the two countries reached €21.1 billion from January to June 2025. Romanian exports to Germany totalled €9.7 billion, a 4.7% drop from H1 of the previous year.
Meanwhile, imports from Germany remained stable with a slight 0.5% increase, reaching €11.4 billion.
Sebastian Metz, Director General and Member of the Board of Directors at AHK Romania, said: "After years of continuous growth in bilateral trade, we expect a decline for the entire year. The economic slowdown and reduced industrial activity in Germany are also leaving their mark on bilateral economic exchanges. However, the decreasing economic momentum in Romania is also negatively impacting bilateral trade. It is therefore even more essential that fiscal measures in Romania are oriented to no longer be a burden for companies."
These results place Romania 18th in terms of German exports and 19th for imports. Overall, Romania dropped from 16th to 17th place among Germany's trading partners, according to AHK Romania data.
