Power group Electrica has initiated the permitting process for 15 battery energy storage parks (BESS) with a combined capacity of approximately 1 GWh, marking a significant step in the company's 2030 Strategy.

The move sees the energy company leveraging existing land assets from its portfolio to build crucial infrastructure aimed at stabilising the national energy system.

Alexandru Chirița, CEO, Electrica, said: "This project is not just about technology or capacity; it is about redefining how Romania manages energy security for the decades ahead."

By deploying storage across multiple sites, Electrica aims to enhance operational resilience, dynamically manage fluctuations in energy consumption and production, and, ultimately, significantly reduce price volatility and reliance on energy imports, according to a company statement.
