Rețele Electrice Romania has begun implementing a new advanced automated distribution management system (AADMS) and workforce management system (WFM) to continue digitalising the electricity distribution network. The project is valued at over €27 million and the services were purchased through a tender on the public procurement platform.
"We are constantly modernising the electricity distribution network to increase its resilience and flexibility so that our services best meet current and future customer needs," said Mihai Peşte, General Director of Rețele Electrice Romania. The implementation of new monitoring, control and operational efficiency systems will allow for better grid management and ensure reliable electricity distribution whilst reducing intervention times during supply interruptions.
The project will improve network parameters and service quality, leading to reduced intervention times during energy supply interruptions, process digitisation and increased efficiency of activities. It will also improve users' access to the distribution service and reduce both planned and unplanned interruption durations.
The AADMS integrated platform with power grid analysis and modelling modules (DMS/EMS) will be financed by European funds through the Sustainable Development Programme. The SCADA components, outage management system (OMS) and operational efficiency system (WFM) will be financed from own funds.
The implementation process comprises three stages over two years: defining detailed design and installing out-of-the-box systems; implementing, integrating and customising solutions according to business needs and local regulations; and operationalising the new systems. The company operates electricity networks with a total length of approximately 134,000 kilometres across Southern Muntenia, Banat and Dobrogea regions, covering one-third of the local distribution market.
