Nearly half of Romanians would invest in battery storage systems for green energy if they received government subsidies, according to a study conducted for despre-energie.ro, a project by E.ON and Delgaz Grid companies.
The research reveals that over 60% of Romanians consider cost as the main barrier to purchasing and installing storage systems, despite most respondents believing that green energy storage is important. Only 9% lack information about the advantages of storage systems, while 19% see energy independence as a major benefit and 30% consider bill savings as motivation.
For owners of photovoltaic panel systems, batteries are essential as they balance variable production by storing surplus energy during the day and providing it in the evening or at night. They increase self-consumption, reduce bills, ensure independence and security, support the electrical grid by reducing overvoltages, and prepare for the energy future by enabling participation in flexibility markets.
The study shows that 46.3% of respondents would be influenced by government financing through state programmes when deciding to invest in storage systems. Bill savings would motivate 30% of respondents, whilst 19% value independence from the electricity distribution network. Nearly 24.3% say they lack adequate space for installation.
Regarding budget estimates for a complete system with photovoltaic panels and batteries, 41% of participants allocated under €5,000, while 37% calculated between €5,000 and €10,000. About 14% indicated needing between €10,000 and €15,000, and nearly 8% estimated over €15,000. The results show a market with growth potential but highlight a major need for information and financial support to accelerate storage system adoption in Romania.
