State-owned hydroelectricity producer Hidroelectrica has published its preliminary operational results for 2025, revealing a fall in production and a surge in external acquisitions of power.
The company reported a 15% decrease in net electricity production compared to 2024, reaching 11,847 GWh.
This decline was almost entirely attributed to the hydro segment, which also fell by 15% to 11,585 GWh. Wind production saw a more moderate decline of 9%, totaling 262 GWh.
Despite the production slump, total electricity sales remained robust, decreasing by only 4% to 14,056 GWh.
To cover the gap between production and sales, the group increased its external acquisitions by 175%, totaling 2,209 GWh.
The supply segment emerged as a major growth driver, with the quantity of electricity sold to final consumers increasing by 30% to 7,244 GWh. Conversely, wholesale energy sales plummeted by 22% to 6,347 GWh.
