Oil major OMV Petrom has completed a €20 million investment at the Petrobrazi refinery to modernise wastewater treatment systems.
Radu Căprău, OMV Petrom Board Member responsible for Refining and Marketing, said: "We constantly invest at Petrobrazi in modern technologies to reduce environmental impact and increase operational efficiency. These new projects in the wastewater treatment facility reflect our determination to operate responsibly and invest in technologies that protect the environment and support the future of Romania's energy sector."
The project involved covering existing basins and installing modern systems for capturing and treating gases from wastewater. These gases undergo three successive processes - chemical treatment, activated carbon filtration and thermal oxidation - to be efficiently cleaned.
The works are part of an extensive modernisation programme at the Petrobrazi refinery. OMV Petrom has invested over €2 billion since 2005 to modernise facilities, improve energy efficiency and prepare the transition to low-carbon fuels.
The company is currently developing a new major project worth approximately €750 million to build a sustainable fuels production unit (SAF/HVO), which will also include a green hydrogen component.
