Helleniq Energy has completed two photovoltaic parks in southern Romania with a combined capacity of 58 MW, marking the company's first operational renewable energy assets in the country. The projects are part of a 2023 agreement with Metlen for developing four solar projects totalling 211 MW.
The remaining two projects under the agreement, with 153 MW capacity, are expected to be completed by 2026. Additionally, a 96 MW wind farm in northeastern Romania is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2027, bringing Helleniq Energy's total installed capacity in the country to over 300 MW.
Helleniq Energy's renewable energy portfolio in Romania exceeds 850 MW, including solar and wind projects combined with energy storage systems. The company is now present in the renewables sector across five countries - Greece, Romania, Cyprus, Bulgaria and North Macedonia - with total renewable capacity in operation reaching 564 MW.
"Romania is a strategic market for the development of our renewable energy portfolio, and the launch of our first RES projects in the country marks an important step towards building a strong regional renewable energy platform," said George Alexopoulos, Deputy CEO of Helleniq Energy.
As part of its strategic plan, Helleniq Energy aims to reach 1.5 GW of installed renewable capacity within three years and more than 2 GW by 2030, focusing on vertical integration and geographic diversification.
