Companies entirely owned by women have an average profitability of 12.3%, which is more than two percentage points higher than the general average of 10.2%, according to a study by ING Bank and Bravva Capital, with support from Termene.ro.
The study also shows that these companies have achieved an annual turnover growth of over 13%, demonstrating resilience, adaptability, and innovation.
These findings were highlighted by the National Confederation for Female Entrepreneurship (CONAF).
Cristina Chiriac, President of CONAF, said: "These data leave no room for interpretation: female entrepreneurship is a strategic resource for Romania. We are talking about over 100,000 companies entirely owned by women and nearly half of the Romanian business environment where there is female shareholding. This presence can no longer be seen as a marginal phenomenon, but as a solid reality with a direct impact on the GDP and national competitiveness."
The organisation suggests implementing dedicated financial instruments, such as credit lines with state guarantees and grants for business scale-up, alongside providing mentorship, entrepreneurial education, and stimulating fiscal measures to encourage investment in women-owned businesses.
