The Austrian Post Group has acquired 100% of Hungarian parcel service provider Delivery Solutions Zrt., operating under the brand Sameday Hungary.
The deal includes all employees, customer contracts including with eMAG, one of Hungary's largest online retailers, and infrastructure comprising around 1,100 parcel lockers.
The acquisition will be integrated into Express One Hungary, a wholly owned subsidiary of Austrian Post Group. This will double the number of parcel lockers in Hungary for Express One Hungary, creating one of the largest out-of-home networks for parcel delivery in the country. The purchase price was not disclosed.
"Shortly after acquiring Bulgarian e-commerce service provider euShipments.com, we are taking another step towards growth in Eastern Europe," said Walter Oblin, CEO of Austrian Post. "The acquisition of Sameday Hungary is in line with our strategy of continuing to grow in the international parcel business through targeted acquisitions."
Peter Umundum, Deputy CEO of Parcels & Logistics, noted that the companies can combine infrastructure and leverage synergies. "With the construction of Express One Hungary's new logistics centre in Budapest and the expansion of our network of parcel lockers, we are underlining our claim to be an attractive parcel provider in our neighbouring country," he said.
The transaction is subject to merger and foreign direct investment clearance and will be completed once necessary approvals are obtained.
