Romania's National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) has launched Ana, an intelligent virtual assistant designed to help taxpayers quickly obtain information about their fiscal obligations.

The chatbot is currently in a testing phase and available only through users' SPV accounts, with plans to make it accessible directly from the institutional portal www.anaf.ro.

The chatbot is part of the "Development of current remote services through new functionalities and/or creation of new services - e-Services ANAF" project, which forms part of Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan. "The launch of the chatbot marks a new concrete stage in the modernisation of the fiscal administration," ANAF stated, adding that the project aims to improve remote service delivery and reduce taxpayers' administrative burden.

At launch, Ana will have a limited set of responses to user questions. The system will continuously update and improve its performance as it interacts with users, learning from their questions. "The more users access the chatbot and ask questions, the more precise, useful and adapted to taxpayers' real needs the virtual assistant will become," according to ANAF.

Initially, Ana will provide information about fiscal obligations for individuals earning income from renting personal property and independent activities. As the system accumulates data and experience through real interactions, the covered domains will expand, contributing to simplified communication between taxpayers and the fiscal administration.
