Apa Nova Bucharest has announced investments exceeding €49 million in 2026 for modernising water and sewerage infrastructure and improving energy efficiency.
The company allocated €30.6 million to projects included in the New Mandatory Investment Programme (NPIO), which aims to extend and modernise water and sewerage infrastructure.
From taking over the concession in 2000 until the end of 2025, Apa Nova Bucharest's investments totalled €795 million. The 2026 investment programme focuses on network modernisation in coordination with major investment programmes run by Bucharest City Hall, as well as service digitalisation and increased energy efficiency.
"We continue modernising water and sewerage infrastructure at a sustained pace. The 2026 investments are oriented towards increasing system performance and adapting services to the needs of a city in permanent transformation," said Mădălin Mihailovici, General Director of Apa Nova Bucharest.
Key projects planned for 2026 include work on the A1 collector in the Tineretului-Văcărești area, which involves extending storm drainage and creating a discharge system into the developed Dâmbovița riverbed, as well as extending drinking water, sewerage and storm water networks in the Lunci Zone - phase II. The company continues work coordinated with other major infrastructure projects by Bucharest City Hall, including those on STB tram line sites, totalling over €12 million.
The investment plan includes digitalisation projects and energy efficiency improvements. Approximately €3.9 million will be allocated for integrating equipment and technologies at water production stations, pumping stations and the Glina Wastewater Treatment Plant, where photovoltaic panels, a biogas tank and equipment modernisation are planned. Smart metering and remote reading systems will continue expanding with €1.7 million allocated. The company estimates completing a micro-hydroelectric plant at the Crivina water treatment station this year, generating approximately 5,813 MWh annually.
