Romania has reached 31 da Vinci robotic surgery programs nationwide, of which 8 are in the public healthcare system. The most recent system, installed at Fundeni Clinical Institute, marks the expansion of robotic surgery in Romanian public hospitals and the regional milestone of 100 da Vinci systems across the SOFMEDICA region: Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Hungary, Cyprus, Croatia and Slovenia.
"Reaching 31 da Vinci programs in Romania, of which 8 are in the public healthcare system, shows the progress of modern surgery in our country," said Evangelos Kalamakis, Managing Director, SOFMEDICA. "It is a milestone that makes us even more responsible to continue expanding access to surgery."
"For Fundeni Clinical Institute, integrating robotic surgery is a step in strengthening surgery in the public system," said Prof. Dr. Vlad Brașoveanu, Fundeni Clinical Institute. "A robotic program is not only about technology, but also about team, training, clinical discipline and long-term vision." Each program requires trained medical teams, adaptation of operating room workflows, hospital management involvement, clinical education and continuous support.
Seven other public institutions hold the da Vinci robot: the Pius Brînzeu County Emergency Clinical Hospital Timișoara, the Regional Institute of Oncology Iași, the Bihor County Emergency Clinical Hospital in Oradea, the Bistrița County Emergency Clinical Hospital, the Municipal Clinical Hospital Cluj-Napoca, the Miercurea Ciuc County Emergency Hospital and the Prof. Dr. Ion Chiricuță Oncology Institute Cluj-Napoca. At the regional level, the first 50 systems took more than 20 years, while the next 50 were installed in less than four years.
