Premier Energy has begun construction of its 200 MW/400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project near Iași, Romania. The total development and construction cost is estimated at €75 million.

The BESS facility is expected to be one of the largest battery storage projects in eastern Romania. Located near the border with Moldova, it is planned to operate as part of Romania's core electricity transmission network, contributing to improved stability, flexibility and resilience of the power system.

Premier Energy has secured green financing of up to €100 million from Československá obchodná banka (ČSOB) to support the construction of this BESS project. The financing will also assist with the financing and development of additional renewable energy assets, including wind and solar assets, across the company.

"The financing represents an important step in advancing the company's strategic objectives and further strengthening its position as a key player in the energy transition in Southeast and Central Europe," said the company in a BVB statement.

The project was previously disclosed in November 2025 as a ready-to-build acquisition.
