Garanti BBVA Forest reaches 6,200 trees planted across Romania

Garanti BBVA Forest, a project launched in 2023 to celebrate the bank's 25th anniversary in Romania, has reached the remarkable milestone of 6,200 trees planted. This initiative is an integral part of the national program "Planting Good Deeds in Romania", carried out in partnership with the EcoAssist Association, which Garanti BBVA has supported since 2022. The project underscores the bank's strategic commitment to social responsibility and environmental protection.

"Initially, the project was built around the idea of <<one tree planted for each employee>>. However, given its success, we continued planting good deeds in 2024 without limiting ourselves to the number of employees. In this context, Garanti BBVA reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by continuing the initiative for the third consecutive year, into 2025," said Virginia Oțel, Corporate Communication Director, Garanti BBVA Romania.

In 2024, bank volunteers participated in multiple planting sessions in both spring and autumn, contributing to the reforestation of affected areas in the counties of Ilfov, Iași, Cluj, and Buzău. Their efforts resulted in over 3,200 saplings being planted. At this steady pace, Garanti BBVA Forest is set to surpass 10,000 trees planted within a few years, focusing on regions severely impacted by deforestation and drought.

"We aspire to inspire through our actions and good deeds. By actively participating in tree-planting initiatives, we were delighted to see that our colleagues and their families also embraced the idea that together we can build a greener, cleaner Romania. Through the Garanti BBVA Forest project, we contribute to environmental protection and the development of local communities. Additionally, these planting activities allow us to connect outside the workplace, fostering genuine bonds among colleagues, our life partners, and even our children. Year after year, planting after planting, we are becoming a more united and stronger team," added Virginia Oțel.

The bank remains committed to active involvement in reforestation projects and supporting initiatives aimed at mitigating climate change, reinforcing its role as a reliable partner in building a greener planet.

"A forest does not stop at planting saplings - that's just the beginning! A complete cycle, from a seed sprouting to a mature tree producing new seeds for the forest, takes decades. A forest is not simply created; it continues. In a cultivated forest, human presence is not optional - it is a responsibility. We are pleased with our long-term partnership with Garanti BBVA to establish new forests in Romania," stated Marin Toma, President of EcoAssist Association.
