Electrica secures grid permits for 700 MWh of storage

Business Forum
Energy company Electrica informs investors and the capital market that it has obtained the technical grid connection permits (ATR) for 17 new battery energy storage projects (BESS), with a total capacity of approximately 700 MWh.

Obtaining the connection permits confirms the technical solution for connecting to the grid and the related conditions, and enables the projects to advance towards design, authorisation and execution.

This step marks a development of the energy storage capacity programme announced as part of the Electrica 2030 Strategy, which targets 1 GW of generation and at least 900 MWh of storage.

"The 700 MWh for which we have obtained the connection permits demonstrate that Electrica is turning its 2030 strategy into actual projects. Storage strengthens the security and flexibility of the energy system and accelerates the integration of renewable sources. We intend to bring these capacities into operation by the end of 2027," said Alexandru-Aurelian Chiriță, CEO of Electrica.
