Romania's annual inflation rate has surged to 7.8% in July 2025, marking a significant increase from the previous month, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July 2025 is 102.68% compared to June 2025. The inflation rate since the beginning of the year stands at 5.8%. This upward trend is primarily attributed to the cessation of the electric energy price capping support scheme, which was in effect until June.

The most notable increases were seen in non-food goods, particularly electricity, gas, and central heating. The price of electric energy rose by 61.57% in July compared to June.

Non-food goods as a whole saw a 5.06% increase. Services and food goods also experienced price rises, though less dramatically, with increases of 1.01% and 0.39% respectively, compared to the previous month.

The average rate of change in consumer prices over the last 12 months (August 2024-July 2025) was 5.3%.
