This year, the sector is anticipated to reach €4.56 billion, marking a 3% increase from 2024. The growth is primarily fueled by the development of digital segments.
Internet advertising is set to be the fastest-growing segment, with revenues climbing from €297 million in 2025 to €387 million in 2029, representing an average annual growth of 7.5%. This is led by online video advertising, paid searches, and classified ads.
"The Romanian media and entertainment industry is evolving at a stable pace, and growth is increasingly coming from digital segments, especially online advertising and streaming services," said Florin Deaconescu, Partner and Leader of the Technology, Media, and Telecom team at PwC Romania. "However, economic challenges, inflation, and changes in consumer behavior are putting pressure on spending, increasing the need for relevant and accessible offers in an environment where advertising is becoming the main source of income, and artificial intelligence is redefining the rules of the game."
The video games and esports segment will also see sustained growth, averaging 8.8% per year. Revenues are expected to increase from €298 million in 2025 to €425 million in 2029, with most of the income generated by social and casual games, as well as in-game advertising.
The OTT streaming services market will expand by an average of 7% per year, growing from €268 million in 2025 to €338 million in 2029.
The Romanian film industry is also projected to see positive growth, with revenues increasing from €68 million in 2025 to €79 million in 2029.
Traditional television will remain stable at €920 million during 2025-2026, while outdoor advertising is expected to reach €58 million by 2029.
The music, radio, and podcast segment is projected to grow by about 5% annually, reaching €52 million in 2029.
The market for print and digital publications will remain relatively stable at around €104 million annually.
