Hunedoara steel plant to cease operations indefinitely

Business Forum
ArcelorMittal has announced the indefinite suspension of production at its steel factory, with operations set to halt from September 5.

The company cited persistently high electricity costs, limited government support, and increasing competitive pressure from imports as key factors impacting the factory's ability to remain competitive in domestic and international markets, according to a statement submitted to the BVB.

A significant drop in the order book, with volumes falling by almost 60% compared to 2024, has further underscored the need for the extended pause.

The company anticipates extending the current technical unemployment measures beyond September 30 for an indefinite period.
