Bozankaya, a manufacturer of electric vehicles and urban transport solutions, has signed a new contract with Timișoara City Hall for the production of 10 trams for the city's public transport system.

Under this agreement, the Turkish company will deliver a total of 50 trams to Timișoara.

Bozankaya has already delivered 40 trams currently operating in Timișoara. The new contract, signed on February 6 by Mayor Dominic Fritz, continues the fleet modernisation process. The investment, valued at €21.2 million (excluding VAT), is funded through the West Regional Program 2021-2027.

"Last year's data clearly shows we are on the right track: 53% of Timișoara residents use public transport, with a total of 177 million trips recorded," states Mayor Dominic Fritz. "The new trams we are purchasing will directly improve the quality of public transport on lines 7 and 9, where change and modernisation are needed."

The new trams will be produced in a 3-module configuration, unlike the previous 5-module model. This adaptation will enable more flexible use of the vehicles, providing an optimised solution for the existing track infrastructure and passenger demand. The vehicles are approximately 20 metres long and operate with zero emissions. The 10 trams will have a capacity of over 150 passengers, 100% low floors, air conditioning, real-time information, Wi-Fi, video surveillance, and facilities for persons with reduced mobility. Delivery is scheduled for spring 2027.

In Romania, Bozankaya is also present in Iași, where all 16 five-module trams from the first project have entered service, and 15 of 18 three-module trams from the second project have been delivered.
