Romania reported the highest forest growth surplus in the European Union for 2023, with a net annual increment of 39.9 million cubic metres.

According to recent data, 23 member states recorded growth rates that outpaced wood removals, highlighting a trend of expanding timber reserves across the continent. Following Romania, Sweden and Poland documented significant increments of 26.4 million and 26.3 million cubic metres, respectively.

Conversely, Estonia was the only nation where removals exceeded growth, resulting in a deficit of 2.5 million cubic metres.

Sustainable harvesting remains the cornerstone of European forestry management. By focusing on intentional harvests and excluding catastrophic losses, the industry maintains a clearer perspective on its ecological footprint.
