Romania's inflation remains steady in April 2025

Romania's Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased marginally by 0.07% compared to March 2025, while the annual inflation rate reached 4.9% by April 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Over the past 12 months (May 2024 to April 2025), the average rate of change in consumer prices was 5.0%, slightly higher than the 4.9% recorded by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for the same period.

The data shows that increases in food and services being somewhat offset by decreases in non-food goods.  

Food prices saw an increase, with a 0.83% rise in April 2025 compared to the previous month. Notably, fruit and tinned fruit prices rose significantly by 3.48%. Oil, lard, and fats also experienced a notable increase of 1.67%, with edible oil specifically rising by 1.95%.

Conversely, non-food goods saw a slight decrease in prices, with an overall drop of 0.65%. However, certain non-food items still showed increases; for example, clothing and footwear rose by 0.61% and 0.89%, respectively.

Services also experienced an upward trend, with a 0.48% increase. Significant increases were observed in rail transport, which surged by 11.71%, and thermal energy, which increased by 11.04%. Water supply, sewage collection, and refuse collection also rose by 1.10%.
