Romania's economy grows 0.7% in 2025

Romania's economy grew 0.7% in real terms in 2025 compared to 2024, though GDP fell 1.9% in Q4 compared to the previous quarter, according to provisional data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Construction contributed positively to GDP growth with a 0.5% contribution, representing 8.7% of GDP formation with activity volumes increasing 7%. Information and communications added 0.3% to growth, accounting for 7.1% of GDP with activity rising 4.1%. Agriculture contributed 0.2% to growth, representing 3% of GDP with volumes up 6.6%.

Professional, scientific and technical activities, along with administrative and support services, had a negative 0.3% impact on GDP despite representing 8.1% of GDP formation, with activity volumes declining 4%. Wholesale and retail trade, vehicle repairs, transport, storage, hotels and restaurants contributed negatively by 0.1%, though they represent 20.3% of GDP formation with activity down just 0.3%.

According to signal data published by INS on 13 February, Romania's economy initially showed 0.6% growth in 2025 but ended the year in technical recession after GDP declined 1.9% in Q4 compared to Q3 2025.
