Romania's annual inflation rate climbed to 9.87% in March from 9.31% in February, driven by an 11.05% increase in services, 10.89% rise in non-food goods, and 7.67% growth in food prices, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
This marks the eighth consecutive month that annual inflation has remained above 9%, following a period of gradual monthly declines.
"The consumer price index in March 2026 compared to February 2026 was 100.78%. The inflation rate from the beginning of the year (March 2026 compared to December 2025) was 2.3%," INS stated in a release.
The harmonised index of consumer prices in March 2026, compared to February 2026, reached 100.92%. The annual inflation rate calculated based on the harmonised consumer price index was 9.0% in March 2026 compared to March 2025.
The central bank has revised its inflation forecast for the end of 2026 upward to 3.9% from the previous 3.7%, and expects inflation to reach 2.7% by the end of 2027.
