Banca Transilvania and OTP Bank Romania become one bank

Banca Transilvania announces the successful completion of the merger with OTP Bank Romania. BT consolidates its leading position and reaches 23% market share through both organic growth and the integration of OTP Bank. The merger also results for BT in +9% assets, +13% loan portfolio and increased presence in Bucharest and the center of the country.

What Banca Transilvania brings to new customers following the merger with OTP Bank:

  • Access to the largest ecosystem of banking and complementary banking solutions through BT Group companies.
  • Presence in 350 communities across the country, through over 530 branches and over 2,000 self-banking machines (BT Express, BT Express Plus, BT Cash & Drop).
  • Next generation apps, BT Pay (for individuals), BT Go (for businesses) and BT Visual Help (for guided self-banking).

BT acquired OTP Bank and the other OTP Group subsidiaries in Romania in 2024 for €347.5m.

Two mergers on the same day in Romania and Moldova

The Banca Transilvania Group has Romania's richest track record in acquisitions and integrations. It now adds to its expertise the fastest integration, completed in just seven months, as well as the experience of two simultaneous mergers in different countries, as Victoriabank, part of the Banca Transilvania Group, marks the merger with BCR Chisinau.

With these two mergers, the Banca Transilvania Group contributes to the consolidation of the Romanian and Moldovan banking markets.

Romania's budget deficit drops to 5.72% on 10 months

Romania's consolidated general budget recorded a deficit of €21.8 billion (RON 108.87 billion) in the first ten months of 2025, representing 5.72% of GDP. This marks a decrease of €110 million compared to the same period in 2024, when the deficit stood at 6.22% of GDP.
