Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture and its Chinese counterpart, domestic farmers will gain a streamlined pathway to export various agro-industrial goods.
The agreement focuses on high-value-added products, aiming to attract new investment into Romania's processing sector. Initial trade protocols have already been formalised, specifically targeting the export of heat-treated poultry, dairy products, and aquatic goods.
Florin Barbu, Minister of Agriculture, said: "This memorandum paves the way for collaboration between the two states regarding food security, processing, research, innovation, and the exchange of modern technologies."
Beyond the initial categories, Romanian authorities are in the advanced stages of preparing documentation for the export of cereals and processed pork products. Officials expect cereal exports to commence within a maximum of two months. To support this expansion, Romania is currently overseeing €2 billion in investments for processing plants and is constructing the largest pig slaughterhouse in Southeast Europe.
