City Grill invests €7 million in ready meals facility

Business Forum
Romanian restaurant operator City Grill Group has announced a €7 million investment in a new production facility for its ready meals range in Buftea, Ilfov County.

The facility will increase production capacity from 5,000 to over 15,000 portions per day, with most of the budget allocated to technology and sustainable production solutions.

The expansion addresses growing demand in the ready-to-eat category, which is evolving beyond convenience to become an integrated part of everyday consumption. The new facility operates as an industrial-scale professional kitchen, covering the entire production flow from cooking to portioning, rapid cooling, and sustainable modified-atmosphere packaging. Meals are prepared close to delivery time without preservatives.

"Our philosophy has remained unchanged since 2004: fresh ingredients, authentic recipes, and flawless execution. This investment allows us to scale that philosophy significantly, without compromising quality," says Mihaela Boșneag (in picture), Operations Director at City Grill Group.

The current ready meals range includes 21 products across three categories: 5 cream soups, 9 salads, appetizers, and main courses, and 7 desserts. Best-selling items include chicken schnitzel with mashed potatoes, stuffed cabbage rolls, and chocolate cherry cake. The company plans to expand the portfolio with Asian-inspired dishes to meet growing demand for variety.

The investment reflects changing consumer behavior as more people adopt hybrid eating habits, alternating between dining out, cooking at home, and choosing quality ready meals. The facility expansion will create 100 new jobs across production, logistics, and quality control, contributing to the local community while strengthening the group's operational capabilities.
