Romania to extend diesel support for transport firms until year-end

Business Forum
Romania's Ministry of Finance has drafted legislation to extend state aid for road transport operators, providing compensation for diesel price increases until the end of 2026.

The proposal extends the grant period until 30 April 2027, covering diesel purchased by operators until 31 December 2026. For the period between 1 April 2026 and 31 December 2026, the state aid value is set at RON 0.85 per litre, with payments made through the Ministry of Finance budget.

The total estimated budget for the state aid scheme is €130 million, which will allow an estimated 6,200 companies to benefit from these compensations.

"This is concrete support for Romanian companies during a tense period of uncertainty in international markets. The mechanism strategically aims to directly support the transport sector to mitigate the impact of price fluctuations on operating costs," said Alexandru Nazare, Minister of Finance. He added that the measure produces positive effects throughout the economic chain associated with transport activity, from logistics and distribution companies to Romanian producers and exporters who depend on predictable transport costs.

The initiative continues to support the business environment in the current context marked by fuel price volatility, influenced by recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affecting energy infrastructure and global transport routes. The Ministry of Finance will conduct quarterly market condition analyses together with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, with the possibility to adjust support value based on oil price dynamics.
