Gebrüder Weiss Romania invests in green energy at Popești-Leordeni Hub

Gebrüder Weiss Romania, the supplier of transport and logistics services, has announced the completion of a new photovoltaic system installation.

The newly installed system comprises 674 photovoltaic panels on the roof of the cross-dock and logistics warehouse, covering an area of approximately 1,635 sqm.

With an installed capacity of 300 kWp, the system is designed to generate green energy primarily for self-consumption, powering the office building and supporting specific warehouse activities, thereby optimising internal energy consumption. 

Viorel Leca, General Manager of Gebrüder Weiss Romania, stated: “We aim for this building to become 100% green in the coming years, and the installed photovoltaic system joins the already created infrastructure to advance in this direction.” 

The company anticipates a self-consumption rate of 60%, providing an energy autonomy of approximately 20%. 

This investment aligns with the Gebrüder Weiss Group's strategic sustainability vision, which has seen 34 photovoltaic systems developed across Europe, with an estimated total production of over 13,000 MWh per year and a reduction in emissions exceeding 2,700 tonnes of carbon.

The company is also exploring the possibility of extending this initiative to its Sibiu hub.

This new green energy initiative complements existing local sustainability measures, including electric vehicle deliveries and the testing of an electric truck.
