OMV Petrom builds 7 MW solar park at Petrobrazi refinery

Business Forum
OMV Petrom will construct a photovoltaic park at its Petrobrazi refinery in Romania. The 7 MW facility will supply renewable power for the refinery's internal consumption and support decarbonization efforts.

"Adding photovoltaic capacity at the refinery enables us to meet part of our power demand through renewable energy. It is consistent gradual progress that supports both operational performance and our environmental objectives," said Franck Neel, Member of the OMV Petrom Executive Board responsible for Gas and Power.

The solar park will cover 110,000 sqm within the refinery complex. The project includes equipment acquisition, construction and installation works to integrate the facility into the refinery's electrical infrastructure. The total budget reaches RON 45.4 million including VAT (€9.12 million), with RON 8.4 million (€1.69 million) provided through the Modernisation Fund.

Construction works are expected to start shortly and be completed this year. OMV Petrom will operate the facility directly.

The investment complements OMV Petrom's ongoing construction of a new sustainable fuels unit at Petrobrazi, which will include two hydrogen units designed to produce green hydrogen using renewable power. The company aims to achieve net zero operations by 2050.
