Mercure opens first hotel in Oradea, Romania

Business Forum
Mercure Hotels & Resorts has opened the Mercure Oradea, its first property in the city. The 90-room hotel is situated in the western part of Oradea, providing access to the historic city centre, the Oradea Arena and the city's main business districts. The project was developed with a €15 million investment under a franchise agreement with local partner Grand Hotel West, a company with a background in hospitality and restaurant services in the city. The hotel is operated by Spark Hospitality, a hotel management company active in Romania and international markets, specialising in lifestyle hotels and resorts.

"The Mercure Oradea brings to life the brand's 'Locally Inspired' promise, and creates an authentic connection for guests with the city and its heritage," said Małgorzata Kalinowska-Klimek, vice president of franchise operations for Eastern Europe at Accor. "As our first hotel in Oradea, the new property marks an important step in strengthening our presence in Romania and raising the city's profile among travellers from around the world. Its proximity to the border makes it an attractive destination for Hungarian visitors, where history, Art Nouveau architecture and a modern urban atmosphere meet."

The hotel offers Classic and Privilege category rooms, suites, interconnecting family rooms and accessible rooms, most with their own balcony. Select suites feature a private outdoor jacuzzi on a terrace. All rooms are equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, Chromecast, a minibar, air conditioning and individually adjustable smart-room controls. Guests are welcomed by a spacious atrium lobby designed with references to local character. The StratumSPA wellness area includes a covered heated pool, whirlpool baths, Finnish and steam saunas, experience showers, a fully equipped fitness room, and massage and beauty treatments available by appointment. The hotel also features four conference rooms with natural lighting and audiovisual equipment.

Food and beverage facilities include the Rei Restaurant, which serves seasonal ingredients with indoor and terrace seating, and the Rei Café, an all-day venue offering coffee and bistro dishes. The Cobalt private wine cellar hosts wine tastings, private dinners and smaller events. The culinary offering has been developed under the direction of Henrik Sebok, a certified master chef from the region.

Oradea, known for its Art Nouveau architecture, thermal bath culture and urban renewal programmes, has become one of Romania's examples of city rehabilitation and is an increasingly visited destination for both business and leisure travellers. The opening of the Mercure Oradea reinforces Accor's continued expansion in Romania and the growing importance of Central and Eastern European cities on the travel and business map.
