Rompetrol Rafinare boosts storage capacity with modernisation program

Business Forum
Rompetrol Rafinare has announced the completion of a major stage in its tank farm rehabilitation and modernisation program at the Petromidia refinery, part of a strategic investment to enhance operational efficiency and safety.

The latest completed works included the rehabilitation of four tanks at the Petromidia refinery. This involved major repairs to the foundation of a 10,000 cbm tank used for diesel components, renewing the anti-corrosive coating, and modernising its cooling and fire extinguishing systems.

Additionally, three tanks used for storing gasoline, with capacities between 3,000 - 10,000 cbm, underwent essential repairs, including the replacement of internal floating roof seals and restoration of anti-corrosive protection.

Sorin Graure, General Manager at Rompetrol Rafinare, said: "It is a strategic investment that supports operational efforts by ensuring flexibility in the assumed production plans."

These efforts are part of the larger modernisation plan for the tank farms at both the Petromidia and Vega refineries.

Since 2007, Rompetrol Rafinare has invested over $40 million in the storage capacities of the two refineries, involving the rehabilitation and modernisation of nearly 60 tanks. This investment has already resulted in a 20% increase in total storage capacity across the two sites.
