Business Forum
Rețele Electrice România, the electricity distribution operator and part of the PPC group in Romania, invested approximately RON 1.4 billion (€280 million) in 2025 in modernisation and digitalisation projects across its distribution networks.

The company completed projects worth RON 1.2 billion (€240 million), with RON 908 million (€181.6 million) funded from its own resources and the remainder from other sources.

Key projects were implemented in the Muntenia, Banat and Dobrogea regions, involving the modernisation of primary and secondary stations, along with upgrades to underground and overhead power lines. The investments directly impact the quality and safety of electricity supply services, expand connection capacities for new consumers and digitalise infrastructure for the efficient management of unplanned outages.

"Last year was a very good year for us: we made a consistent volume of investments in all the counties where we operate," said Mihai Peşte, General Director, Rețele Electrice România. "These are investments that can be seen in the field and, above all, bring direct benefits to the communities where we operate."

In 2025, the company added 2 new primary stations, modernised 4 primary stations, built 1 km of new high-voltage lines and modernised about 64 km of high-voltage lines. The network expansion included 303 km of new medium-voltage lines and 453 km of modernised medium-voltage lines. Almost 1,000 new secondary stations were added whilst 440 were modernised. The total number of smart meters installed reached 2 million, the largest volume in Romania's electricity distribution system.

For 2026, Rețele Electrice România plans to commission investment works worth RON 1.3 billion (€260 million), with RON 821.3 million (€164.2 million) from own funds. The company operates networks totalling about 136,000 km across Muntenia Sud, Banat and Dobrogea regions, covering one third of the local distribution market with 293 power stations and over 26,000 secondary substations.
