Romanian leu hits new historic low against euro

The Romanian leu depreciated on Monday against the euro, which was calculated by the National Bank of Romania (BNR) at RON 5.1998 lei, up 1.1% from the previous rate, recording a new historic high.

The leu also lost ground against the US dollar, which was quoted at RON 4.4376, up 0.93% compared to Thursday.

The national currency depreciated against the Swiss franc as well, calculated at RON 5.6670, up 1.5% from the previous session, also recording a historic high.

Gold per gram fell to RON 653.2534 from RON 653.5585 in the previous session.

The leu has weakened against the euro due to political instability, with the government facing a vote of no confidence this Tuesday, according to commentators.
