This partnership aims to expand Romania's sovereign airlift capacity as the Ministry of National Defence embarks on a modernization program, which includes replacing existing airframes.
The agreement establishes a comprehensive framework for programmed depot maintenance (PDM) of current and future C-130 aircraft.
Marshall and Romaero will jointly develop plans for maintenance, including supply chain management for equipment and materials. Marshall will also provide engineering support for repairs, airworthiness assessments, and technical publications, enhancing Romaero's in-country capabilities to ensure the RoAF aircraft remain mission-ready.
Bogdan Costaș, Director of Romaero, said: “The Marshall team stands out for its depth of experience, full transparency, breadth of technical knowledge and impressive heritage of working on the C-130 platform.”
The collaboration framework was defined in an initial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at Marshall's HQ in Cambridge, UK. Maintenance work on the first aircraft is expected to begin in 2026.
Mark Hewer, Director of Aero Engineering Services at Marshall, added: “For Marshall, this collaboration isn't just a chance to work with a new C-130 operator; it's about building a long-term relationship around a vital national defence programme undertaken by a key NATO member.”
Romaero will conduct maintenance and engineering work at its facilities adjacent to Bucharest Băneasa airport.
