DS Smith invests €14 million in Romanian production facilities

Business Forum
DS Smith, the producer of packaging solutions, is investing over €14 million in its Romanian production infrastructure.

The largest investment of €10.5 million will be made at the Timișoara plant by Q1 2027. The project includes automation, production flow transformation, and warehouse expansion to meet logistics requirements and reduce delivery lead times.

The investment will add a new production line in the conversion area, enabling growth opportunities with existing and new customers through improved technologies, efficiency, real-time quality control, and capability to produce new packaging types. The company has also implemented a cooling system that reduces production hall temperatures by up to 5°C as part of its "Health and Wellbeing" program.

The Ghimbav plant will receive an additional €3.6 million investment in 2026 for infrastructure modernisation and corrugated board production equipment upgrades. This builds on a €13 million investment launched in 2023 at the same facility.

"In 2026, DS Smith Packaging Romania continues to accelerate its investments and business transformation, with a clear growth direction," said Christian Schmidt, Cluster Director DS Smith Packaging Romania. "Despite a challenging economic environment, we remain focused on development, competitiveness, and delivering concrete responses to the constantly changing needs of our customers."
