Romanians expect to pay up to €4,000 for home renovations

A recent study by Raiffeisen Bank, in collaboration with global market research company Appinio, reveals that three out of four respondents are planning home renovations in 2025.

More than half of these individuals aim to improve comfort or modernize their living spaces, while 36% intend to carry out necessary repairs.

Additionally, 21% of the study participants are looking to invest in increasing their homes' energy efficiency, and 8% are preparing their homes for a new family member.

The study also indicates that three in ten participants are planning a complete renovation, while the remainder are considering partial renovations or minor repairs.

For many, summer is the preferred season for these projects, with two out of three respondents favoring it. The average renovation budget exceeds RON 9,000 (€1,808), and for extensive renovations, 23% of respondents anticipate costs surpassing RON 20,000 (€4,017).

Romanians are preparing financially for these renovations, with 54% saving for the projects. For more significant renovations, some opt to use financial products such as credit cards (20%), personal loans (18%), or overdraft facilities (11%).

“Home renovation is an investment not only in the property but also in quality of life. It's important that this investment doesn't strain a family's budget or force them to sacrifice other important goals, such as their children's education or personal development plans,” states Vladimir Kalinov, Vice President of Retail, Raiffeisen Bank Romania.

The research also explored how Romanians approach renovation planning, with six in ten opting to hire specialists or specialized firms for the work. The remaining four in ten choose to renovate themselves or seek assistance from friends or family. Environmental consciousness is also a key consideration, with 76% of Romanians planning renovations in 2025 indicating they will choose environmentally friendly materials and solutions.

The Raiffeisen Bank study, conducted in collaboration with Appinio, was a CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interviewing) survey involving a nationally representative sample of 750 individuals in April 2025.
