Romanians to spend more for Easter this year

Romanians are preparing to spend an average of RON 800 (€160) on food and preparations for Easter, reveals a recent study by Raiffeisen Bank, in collaboration with Appinio.

The study highlights that for 8 out of 10 Romanians, spending time with family remains the most cherished tradition during this holiday period.

The research indicates that families with children and individuals with monthly incomes exceeding €1,000 plan to spend more, with their budgets averaging over 900 lei. Interestingly, 4 out of 10 Romanians who spend over RON 1,000 (€200) prefer to celebrate Easter by dining at restaurants or taking vacations within the country or abroad.

This year, 55% of respondents reported an increase in their Easter shopping budget compared to the previous year. A significant 8 out of 10 participants stated that their product choices are influenced by a desire to support local producers, a trend particularly noticeable among those in rural areas and individuals over 55 years old.

Easter represents a substantial expense in the budgets of many Romanians. These expenses are primarily covered from monthly income and existing savings, although 3 out of 10 Romanians, especially those who are single, resort to bank loans.

Credit card users are more inclined to spend over RON 1,000, especially if they choose to travel during this time.

The survey was conducted on a nationally representative sample of 750 individuals, with secondary or higher education and an average household income of approximately RON 7,000 (€1,400). The research was carried out in April 2025
