Romania aims to reach 3 GW in offshore wind

Business Forum
Romania's Ministry of Energy is aiming to commission a study on the potential of offshore wind projects in the Black Sea and is looking to receive feedback from the industry.

The study's objective is to support the development of at least 3 GW of installed offshore wind energy capacity by 2035, in line with Romania's commitments at the European level.

“The Black Sea is a strategic energy resource for our country that we've underutilised until now, but it has the potential to become a key pillar of national and regional energy security,” says Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja.

The study will analyse the wind potential of the Black Sea, the geotechnical characteristics of the marine environment, the environmental impact and biodiversity, the possibilities for connection to the National Energy System, and also its compatibility with other uses of the maritime space.

In addition, logistical, security, and transport aspects will be evaluated to propose a coherent prioritisation of the perimeters that can support the development of strategic projects.
