Nova Power & Gas unveils Romania's largest battery storage investment

Business Forum
Nova Power & Gas, a local energy company part of the E-INFRA group, has confirmed its investment in the largest battery energy storage facility in Romania.

This significant project, located in Florești, Cluj County, will have a capacity of 200 MW/400 MWh and is expected to be operational by the end of 2025.

Once completed, this investment will double Romania's current total energy storage capacity, directly contributing to the stability of the national grid and the efficient integration of renewable energy sources.

The company also announced further substantial investments, including two new gas-fired power plants. A 150 MW plant is set to begin operations in Câmpia Turzii, with the first phase targeted for December 2026. By 2028, Nova Power & Gas plans to develop an additional 200 MW gas plant and new storage facilities totaling 600 MW/1200 MWh.

Septimiu Costea, CTO of Nova Power & Gas, said: "Through these investments, we aim to maintain and strengthen our leadership in the storage sector and to invest heavily in electricity production from gas-fired plants, to support the balance and flexibility of the energy system."

Nova Power & Gas currently leads the national energy storage capacity with 240 MWh already operational.

The company is also a key supplier of electricity and natural gas, having delivered over 4.6 TWh of energy and gas in 2024, with a turnover of nearly RON 3 billion (€600 million).

Nova Power & Gas also has a regional presence with subsidiaries in Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, and the Republic of Moldova.
