Scatec secures €100 million financing for major Romanian solar expansion

Business Forum
A consortium of international and local lenders has finalised a €100 million project financing package for the "Dobrun & Sadova" solar portfolio in Romania.

The funding, provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and Banca Comercială Română (BCR), supports the development of a 190 MW renewable energy capacity.

Located in the southern counties of Dolj and Olt, the portfolio represents the first major entry into the Romanian market for the Norwegian renewable energy firm Scatec ASA.

The project has reached financial close and is transitioning into the construction phase. Notably, the transaction is amongst the first in the Romanian market to utilise the newly introduced Contracts for Difference (CfD) framework.

International law firm CMS provided comprehensive legal counsel to Scatec throughout the transaction, managing all aspects of the project financing, including security documentation and regulatory alignment with the CfD requirements.
