TenarisSilcotub completes 20 MW PV park in Călărași

Business Forum
Seamless pipes maker TenarisSilcotub has announced the completion of its first renewable energy production facility. The company has invested $21.5 million in the development of a 20 MW photovoltaic park.

The investment was funded through the company's own resources and with support from European non-reimbursable funds, specifically from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The electricity generated by the park will be used for the steelworks' own consumption, covering a portion of its annual energy needs and supporting a more sustainable and efficient production process.

Mihaela Popescu, President of Tenaris Eastern Europe, North Sea and Sub-Saharan Africa, said: "We have consistently focused on reducing our environmental impact, with our steelworks being among the top 15 most efficient steel plants in the world in terms of CO2 emissions. This project allows us to set a new standard for sustainable production, support our customers in their own decarbonization efforts, and have a positive impact on the environment."

The use of solar energy will reduce the steelworks' carbon dioxide emissions, aiding in the goal of a 30% reduction by 2030 compared to 2018 levels. This initiative is part of a broader effort that includes the use of scrap iron and alternative materials, contributing to steel production with 98% recycled content.

TenarisSilcotub, part of Tenaris, had a turnover of $840 million and employed over 1,900 people in 2023.
