Iulian Stanciu sells eMAG stake to Prosus

Business Forum
Romanian entrepreneur Iulian Stanciu has announced the sale of his stake in eMAG Group to Prosus, 17 years after taking over the company and 14 years after signing the partnership with Naspers (Prosus).

eMAG will continue its development and expansion plans, with RON 1.2 billion (€229 million) budgeted this fiscal year alone for technology, logistics and financial services.

"All this technology developed here in Bucharest and exported regionally has created a technology champion that will continue to grow rapidly in a sector that is still in its early stages of development," said Stanciu.

Fabricio Bloisi, CEO of Prosus, said: "Iulian has transformed eMAG into the main online commerce ecosystem in the region. He expanded the business into retail, logistics and financial services - proof of his entrepreneurial vision, involvement and energy. We maintain our commitment to work closely with the eMAG team and contribute, through AI and top logistics, to their growth as a regional leader."

In this new phase, Stanciu will accelerate investments in companies and projects that can create added value in Romania and will get involved in developing entrepreneurship, focusing on access to capital, mentoring, know-how and connecting local companies to larger markets. The objective is supporting the entrepreneurial infrastructure that Romania needs to develop more companies capable of becoming regional leaders. Future sectors of interest include strategic areas such as energy, medical services, industry and technology, alongside continued support for entrepreneurship, the financial sector and investment funds.
