Romanian package delivery company Sameday, controlled by e-commerce giant eMAG, has announced the purchase of Cargus, the delivery firm owned by private equity investor MidEuropa Partners, for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition is currently pending approval by relevant merger control and foreign investment authorities.

With the new deal, Sameday aims to bolster its operational capacity and refine its logistics infrastructure.

Lucian Băltaru, CEO of Sameday Group, said: "The result we expect, following the approval of the acquisition by the relevant authorities and the finalization of the transaction, is an improved customer offering, better positioned to deliver efficient solutions and innovation to support the development of e-commerce and courier services.”

Belgin Bactali, CEO of Cargus, added: “We welcome this natural step in our company's journey as it means more opportunities to invest in our business and people to continue improving services we provide to our customers across CEE.”

Sameday operates in Hungary and Bulgaria and controls the most extensive regional network of over 7,200 easybox lockers. Cargus is the first private package delivery company that opened in Romania during 1991.
